Appeal for Declined SASSA SRD Grant

How to Appeal for Declined SASSA SRD Grant

I know how frustrating it is when you check your SASSA SRD grant status and it shows “declined” but don’t give up – the appeals process can help. I’ve been through it and want to share tips on preparing a successful appeal.

Submit your appeal within 30 days of being denied. Keep in mind that it might take up to 90 days to get a decision on your appeal.

  • Visit the SASSA website: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal.
  • Type in your ID number and the phone number you used to apply.
  • Click “Send Pin” to get a PIN.
  • Enter the PIN you receive in the space provided.
  • Pick the month you want to appeal for.
  • Select the reason for your appeal.
  • Submit your appeal.
  • Wait to find out the result of your appeal.

SRD Appeal Declined Reasons

Declined SASSA payment status means you don’t meet the criteria for the R350 grant. Now you only have two options left. The first one is acceptance and the other is appeal.

If you’ve decided to appeal, understand that it’s only a solution if the declined decision was a mistake. Otherwise, your appeal will also be declined.

Most importantly, you need strong evidence to back your appeal of deserving the grant. Hence, gather as much evidence as possible like a bank statement or anything that shows you’re eligible for the grant and the decline decision was a mistake.

Remember, if your application was declined because of any of the reasons below (not the mistakes) the chances of a successful appeal are nearly impossible.

1. Extra Income Sources

If SASSA determined that you have additional income sources that disqualify you from the grant, it might be an uphill battle to convince them otherwise. Unless you can prove that their income assessment was inaccurate, an appeal may not be fruitful.

2. Age Restrictions & Bank Balance

The SASSA R350 grant has a specific age (18 to 59) and bank balance requirements. If you fall outside the eligible age range or your bank balance exceeds the limit, appealing the decision might not change the outcome.

3. Other Social Grants

In some cases, receiving other social grants can make you ineligible for the SASSA R350 grant. If this is the reason for your declined application, providing evidence that you don’t receive any other grants may strengthen your appeal.

4. Govt Employees

If you’re currently employed by the government, you’re not eligible for the SASSA R350 grant. Unless there’s been a mistake in assessing your employment status, an appeal may not be successful.

5. Real Estate/Assets Found

If you own any real estate or assets, your SASSA application for the SRD R350 grant will be declined.

6. Non-South African Citizenship

Only South African citizens, asylum seekers, and special permit holders can apply for SASSA grants.

7. Duplicate Application Found

If you submit multiple applications for the same grant, your application will be marked as a duplicate and declined.

8. Employment Found

If you are employed and earn more than the allowed amount, you cannot get the SRD R350 grant.
