Grant In Aid Requirements

To be eligible for the Grant-in-Aid, you must meet the following criteria:

Already Receiving a Grant: You must already be getting a disability grant, war veteran’s grant, or an older person’s grant.

Need for Full-Time Care: You must be unable to look after yourself because of a physical or mental disability and need someone else to care for you all the time.

Not in a Government-Subsidized Institution: You cannot be living in an institution that is getting a subsidy from the government for your care or housing.

Documents Required To Apply For The Grant

You need the following documents to apply for grant in aid:

Visit the Nearest SASSA Office: Go to the closest South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) office with the following documents:
Your 13-digit bar-coded
ID Proof of your marital status and your spouse’s ID if applicable
A medical or assessment report (less than three months old) that shows you need full-time care.

Note: If you’re too old or sick to travel, a family member or friend can apply for you. They should bring a letter from you or a doctor’s note explaining why you can’t come in person

How To Apply

If you think you qualify for the Grant-in-Aid, here’s what you need to do:

Complete the Application: You can get the form from nearest Sassa office available in free of cost. Fill out the application form in front of a SASSA officer. Only you or the SASSA officer can complete this form. The officer will interview you to see if you qualify for the grant.

Keep Your Receipt: After applying, you will be given a receipt. Keep it safe as proof that you applied.
Processing Time: Your application can take up to three months. If your application is approved, your payments will start from the date you applied.
